Air sealing is designed to stop unwanted air from entering what builders call the envelope of your home. The envelope is where unwanted air creeps in and it refers to any gaps or crchs in the ceilings, floors, walls, windows and doors that make up your home. If you want to save money on heating your home while keeping it fresh and healthy at the same time then you need good air sealing. More than ten percent of your heating bill is going straight out of the door if you don’t have air sealing.

Government is constantly telling us that we need to save energy. At the same time we don’t want to be paying of heating and air conditioning that is seeping away through the unnoticed gaps and cracks in our home. Air sealing prevents energy from escaping and more to the point it stops the air outside, which can be polluted, from getting into your home. Other areas that can let in unwanted air and let heat escape, is the attic if you have one, and the foundations of your home. The air that comes in through these entrances is often dusty and damp and can make your home smell of mould. Air sealing in those often forgotten areas will not only make you bank balance look healthier from energy saving, it will stop that often polluted air entering your home.

Many people suffer from coughs and colds and other respiratory complaints because of the bad air that enters their home. When a house is properly air sealed it not only prevents your warmed air from escaping, it stops the polluted air from coming in. In the winter air sealing will keep out all of the draughts and wnds that get in through unsealed cracks and in the summer it will ensure that your air conditioning system is working properly and that the heat from outside is not getting into your home.

Air sealing prevents the draught coming in under your doors and through any gaps in your windows. When the envelope of your home is properly air sealed you won’t be feeling the draught from the window any longer. Air sealing is not difficult to do providing you have identified where all the gaps and cracks are at the outset. The materials that are needed to air seal your home such as weatherstripping and caulking are not that expensive to buy, nor is air sealing difficult to do. You will need a professional to deal with any air sealing that needs doing on the foundations of your home but other than that you should be able to do it yourself.

When your home is air sealed it is a warmer and healthier atmosphere for you and your family.
